CAPITAL CAMPAIGN: MAKING PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS TO REDUCE OPERATING COSTS

Vedic Organic Iowa Grown (4:25)
$12,000 for water infrastructure including a submersible pump powered by solar panels, and 700 feet of underground water lines, to allow us to use year round water from rain-fed ponds that drain only organic land. This is the healthiest water source for the plants and we already use this water as much as we can. But without these improvements we cannot use it half the year including colder months and the driest part of the summer. These improvements would save $800 a month in water bills over using tap water for irrigation.
$10,000 this year to replace the double poly coverings of the roofs of our large greenhouses with IRC poly that studies show reduces propane heating costs in the winter by up to 30%. This would allow us to replace the poly on 5 roof sections of 6,500 square feet each and two wall sections.
$8,000 to install drain tile on 3 acres of outdoor fields surrounding the greenhouses, doubling our usable production space and carrying more rain water to the ponds.
$28,000 to replace the damaged blade on our wind turbine allowing us once again to use sustainable wind energy, and reduce our electric costs year round by half.
Total Goal for Infrastructure $58,000
DEBT REDUCTION CAMPAIGN
One of the greatest pressures facing the greenhouse project is debt. Construction of the greenhouses was funded almost entirely by debt, as well as equipment, start up and some operating costs.
Total Goal for Debt reduction $120,000
Total Summer Campaign $178,000
Of the $187,022 raised in the Spring Save the Greenhouse Campaign, $137,022 went toward debt reduction and debt service.
