For 50 years Maharishi brought to light the Vedic literature as a complete science of life, first introducing the Transcendental Meditation program and its advanced programs for development of consciousness, and then programs for education, health care, architecture, administration, defense and a total of 40 areas. During the last 10 years of his life Maharishi gave attention to the field of agriculture—Vedic Organic Agriculture—because the quality of mind and body is directly affected by the food we eat.
Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture
In 2015, we started for the first time in America, a regular program of Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture. Vedic Pandits trained in India residing in Maharishi Vedic City perform live daily Vedic recitations to the plants in the greenhouses throughout the growing season, creating an enriched vitality and balance in the plants that you’ll enjoy in the produce.

It is the live recitation by specially trained Maharishi Vedic Pandits to the plants. This recitation is done from the most settled state of the Pandits' awareness based on their long practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program and years of training in India and at their campus in Maharishi Vedic City.
The Pandits perform very specific recitations formulated by Maharishi, each lasting many hours, at each of the eight stages of the development of the plants—from seed to seed.
Dr. John Konhaus who worked with Maharishi for many years on this program describes it as follows: “From the very beginning Maharishi explained why Vedic Organic Agriculture is truly Brahm Vidya or Total Knowledge. He elaborated that nature has an eightfold divided aspect, and a twofold undivided aspect—the 8 prakritis, along with Paraprakriti and Purusha. By enlivening and balancing the 8 prakritis in the food, Maharishi said we could create real Vedic food, food that was capable of developing higher states of consciousness.”
It is extraordinary to be able to grow food in this way. We have a unique situation in our community where we have our greenhouse project—the laboratory of Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, we have the specially trained Maharishi Vedic Pandits, and we have the faculty, researchers and doctoral students at Maharishi University of Management. Over the coming years working with them and with researchers around the world, we look forward to identifying the scientific basis of the changes that take place in the plants and in the physiology when we eat this produce.
This is what Maharishi called “Vedic Food for Vedic Life.” It is food for enlightenment. That is why we wanted to make this food available not only in our own local community but to everyone in our broader community around the US who cares about their own enlightenment.
